About Us

EchoStar Satellite Services L.L.C., a subsidiary of U.S. headquartered EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), is a satellite owner/operator with a fleet of 9 Ku, Ka and S-band satellites. We provide Ku-band transponder capacity, with comprehensive coverage of the United States and the Gulf of Mexico, on our satellites located at 121° and 105°. 

Our reliable and innovative satellite communications infrastructure and solutions meet the evolving communications needs of U.S. Government and military service providers, media organizations, enterprise, aeronautical and maritime customers.


Management Team

Anders Johnson | President

Anders Johnson serves as Chief Strategy Officer, EchoStar Corp., and President of EchoStar Satellite Services with responsibility for coordinating strategic initiatives and corporate development across the company as well as directing EchoStar Satellite Services. Mr. Johnson was previously at SES World Skies, where he served as Senior Vice President of Strategic Satellite Development. Mr. Johnson joined SES GLOBAL after the combination of GE AMERICOM and SES in 2001. Prior to SES, he worked at GE from 1985 in a variety of executive-level roles including Satellite Services, Aviation Services and Transportation & Industrial Financing. Mr. Johnson holds a B.S. degree from the New York Institute of Technology.

Richard Mortellaro | Senior Vice President, Satellite Services

Richard Mortellaro, a 30-year satellite industry veteran, is Senior Vice President for EchoStar Satellite Services responsible for Sales, Marketing, and FSS Business Development activities. Prior to joining EchoStar, Mr. Mortellaro served in various leadership positions within the satellite industry. Mr. Mortellaro  began his sales and marketing career in commercial broadcasting where he served as promotion producer and later as promotion director. Mr. Mortellaro holds a Master of Arts in Communications from the University of New Orleans (Louisiana) and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Loyola University (New Orleans, Louisiana).

Derek de Bastos | Chief Technology Officer

Derek de Bastos, Chief Technology Officer, is responsible for the procurement, technical direction, and technical operations for EchoStar’s satellite fleet. Mr. de Bastos also manages a growing team responsible for systems engineering and program management. Mr. de Bastos joined ESS from SiriusXM Radio, where he was vice president of engineering, a position he held from 2008 when Sirius and XM merged. He was among the first employees of XM Satellite Radio and was the vice president of satellite engineering for nine years preceding the merger, during which time he helped take the company from a vision to America’s first nationwide digital satellite radio service. He also held management positions with Worldspace Inc. and Lockheed Martin (formerly RCA) Astro Space.

Jaime Londono | Vice President Advanced Programs and Spectrum Management

Jaime Londono serves as Vice President Advanced Programs and Spectrum Management for ESS. Prior to joining EchoStar, Mr. Londono served as Director Spectrum Market Development at SES. Mr. Londono joined SES after the combination of GE AMERICOM and SES in 2001. Prior to SES, he worked at RCA and GE from 1985 in a variety of key management positions in the Satellite Industry including domestic and international matters dealing with spectrum in the telecommunications. Mr. Londono holds a MSEE degree from Monmouth University.
